Certainty feels safer, but it rarely leads anywhere new. In this interview, Frank Galestien, Vice President Marketing and Digital for Food & Beverages Europe at Ecolab, shares what a new industry taught him about assumptions, and why he’s decided never to make them again.
What has been the biggest change in your life over the past year?
“After 19 years I moved to a new company in a completely new industry with a different business model. For the first time in my career, I took a break of 4 months before joining the new company. In hindsight way the break was way too short, but the luxury of time was the best gift ever.”
What’s one goal or intention you’re carrying into the second half of the year?
“Never assume, aways seek to understand. The world is too complex to have all knowledge or wisdom cantered in one person. Make sure to invite for different point of views, to learn from and to keep teams aligned and involved on the journey.”
What’s one thing the Roots Inspire community has given you that you didn’t expect?
“For me, the conversations are extremely useful as they also bring me new perspectives or insights on my own views. For instance, during one conversation a mentee made a small remark, that triggered something in me. This was not at all his intention, but it showed me how a good discussion is beneficial to both sides around the table.”
